Hope in the Hardest Places: What GRI Is Doing

In the midst of war, displacement, and deep spiritual need, GRI is helping local believers bring hope, healing, and the Gospel to some of the hardest to reach places in South Sudan and Sudan. Despite the danger, doors are opening, and lives are being transformed.

Raising Leaders Through Jesus Impact School of Mission (JISM)
In Juba, South Sudan, future missionaries, pastors, and church planters undergo a six-month intensive program. Many come from Muslim backgrounds and return to serve in refugee camps and unreached areas as missionaries, church planters, and trauma healing facilitators. The training includes 1,000 hours of Bible teaching, 100 hours of mentoring, and 100 hours of practical outreach.

Translating the Bible for the First Time

For many in Sudan, the Bible has never been available in their heart language until now. GRI is supporting 106 Sudanese translators who are working among 11 unreached people groups. So far, they’ve completed 50 Bible stories (from Genesis to Revelation), 40 discipleship lessons, and full translations of 28 books of the Bible. These resources are being used for oral storytelling, church planting, and discipleship—giving entire communities their first meaningful encounter with God’s Word.

Bringing Relief to the Displaced
Conflict has left millions without food, shelter, or safety. Through the Sudan Emergency Relief Ministry (SERM), GRI has provided life-saving aid to more than 571 displaced leaders and their communities including widows, the elderly, and the disabled. The relief is led by JISM graduates, and it’s already resulted in new house churches being planted inside refugee camps.

Equipping Centers: Built to Multiply Impact

To make training more accessible and sustainable, GRI is building five Equipping Centers across South Sudan.

The first center in Yida (near the Nuba Mountains) now houses six translation teams, supports two languages. House churches are forming, and clean water access will soon be extended to the wider community. The second center is planned for Aweil near the Darfur border to reach even more unreached people groups.

God is at work in the hardest places. And through your support, this movement of hope is growing.

How Can the Church Pray for GRI:

Guidance – Pray for wisdom for Dr. Cliff Daffron and the GRI leadership team as they navigate complex ministry contexts

Protection – Pray for the safety and health of teams working in unstable and remote regions

Provision – Pray for ongoing financial support to sustain current efforts and enable the expansion of these vital ministries.

Transformation – Pray that many would come to Christ, experience healing, and become disciple-makers in their communities
